Updated Dept. of Labor web site makes accommodating disabled employees easier. Use the site's Searchable Online Accommodation Resource (SOAR) database to find specific accommodation information. SOAR suggests accommodations for more than 50 different classes of conditions that might work for employees. Read a recent upi article on ADA accommodations.

The Department of Transportation is amending certain provisions of its drug testing procedures to create consistency with many, but not all, new requirements established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Changes include testing for Ecstasy and lower testing levels for cocaine and amphetamines. The new rule is effective October 1, 2010. Read full details here (pdf).

Whooping Cough outbreaks in several states. Several states are now reporting an increase in whooping cough cases, including a state-wide epidemic in California. Take action by making sure vaccinations are up-to-date, including a Tdap booster. Read up on Whooping Cough at the CDC site.
