Signs for July 1 Indiana No Smoking Law Available at ComplianceSigns.com

Indiana’s new statewide smoking ban goes into effect July 1, 2012. The new law prohibits smoking in most public places and places of employment - and requires both smoking and non-smoking businesses to post state-specific smoking signs at all public entrances.

Safety sign manufacturer ComplianceSigns.com has developed signs to meet state requirements and help Indiana businesses comply with the new law. The Indiana smoking ban law, HEA 1149, prohibits smoking within eight feet of public entrances and requires signs with language to that effect.

Business owners will find a large selection of Indiana No Smoking signs at  ComplianceSigns.com. The Illinois-based sign manufacturer has carried state-specific No Smoking signs for years, and regularly updates its store as state smoking laws change.

“Our development team researched the new law and designed signs that make the new eight-foot rule very clear,” said company president Paul Sandefer. “We also created a variety of styles and sizes so businesses can find a no smoking sign they’ll be happy to post. Hotels, restaurants and professional offices will appreciate our brushed metal plates with two-color printing, mounted on wood plaques or frames. It’s a state-mandated notice, but it doesn’t have to look like a highway sign,” said Sandefer.

Casual and industrial facilities will find economical Indiana no smoking signs printed on plastic or aluminum, as well as clear labels that mount inside or outside of glass doors or windows. The Indiana Alcohol & Tobacco Commission website has printable signs.

Indiana Smoke-Free Air Law Sign Requirements
According to the Indiana State Excise Police, these signs are required by new law:
  • "State Law Prohibits Smoking Within 8 Feet of this Entrance" signs must be posted at each public entrance to a public place or a place of employment.
  • Two or more “Cigarette Smoking is Prohibited” signs must be posted inside a cigar bar or hookah bar that allows smoking of tobacco products (other than cigarettes).
  • Two or more “WARNING: Smoking Is Allowed In This Establishment” signs must be posted inside an establishment exempt from the state smoking ban.

  • Two or more “Smoking Is Prohibited By State Law” signs must be posted inside an establishment not exempt from the state smoking ban.
  • “Smoking Is Prohibited In This Restaurant” signs must be posted at each entrance to a restaurant informing the public that smoking is prohibited in the restaurant. This is in addition to the “Smoking Is Prohibited By State Law” signs required above.
The excise police note that businesses may print their own signs, but a computer-printed sign on standard office paper will quickly fade in sunlight. The professional-grade signs from ComplianceSigns.com are printed with UV-stable ink and include a laminate that is UV, chemical, abrasion and moisture resistant.
